Nguyen Quoc Hung (born 1950) is a unique phenomenon in Hanoi's art scene - a talent who remained hidden for decades in silence and relentless creative labor. Having graduated from the Hanoi College of Industrial Arts in the 1970s, he chose an independent lifestyle, isolating himself from the clamor of the art market to devote himself entirely to his canvas.
Nguyen Quoc Hung’s art is often likened to a cultural "undercurrent," where innocent passion intertwines with a profound humanistic philosophy. Despite diligently creating thousands of oil paintings on paper with the tireless work ethic of a civil servant, he long maintained a proud "anonymity" to protect his inner freedom. For him, creation is a journey to illuminate the truths hidden within the dark corners of the soul, traversing a life weathered by worldly burdens.
After many years of seclusion, the name Nguyen Quoc Hung has gradually stepped into the light through projects such as the Long Bien Art Fair (2020-2025), Summer Fest Ha Long 2024, and most notably, his recent solo exhibition, "Undercurrent" (Mạch Ngầm) in 2025.
