Artist Le Thanh Binh (b. 1979) is a unique phenomenon in Vietnam's contemporary art scene. Graduating in Fine Arts Design from the Hanoi Academy of Theatre and Cinema, and armed with a masterful foundation in classical oil painting techniques, he eschews a rushed or superficial approach. Instead, he remains steadfast in his commitment to large-scale canvases, where he finds the driving force to break free from the "box" of his own capabilities and achieve a state of absolute freedom.
Le Thanh Binh's art is a convergence of space-time theory and human sentiment. Rather than adhering to the classical Surrealist tradition of bizarre dreams, his work is a "surrealism of memory." He masterfully weaves time into three-dimensional space to construct a mesmerizing continuum. Within this artistic realm, antique objects imbued with the Vietnamese soul, such as betel boxes, oil lamps, woven bamboo trays, or village gates, manifest as suspended motifs, serving as bridges that connect modern consciousness with traditional cultural values.
In a remarkably short period, Le Thanh Binh has achieved international acclaim through a series of prestigious exhibitions across Italy, Spain, Bangladesh, Taiwan, and notably, China. Most recently, his artistic footprint was further solidified at the 11th Silk Road Exhibition (2025) in Xi'an and the A80 National Day Commemorative Exhibition (2025).
